We are open for submissions, now until July 15th!  Don't wait until the last minute and overload our wonderful judges.

Only one week until the submissions start!  Submissions will be accepted May 21- July 15.  This is a LONG submission period, so as last time,  the contest will not be extended.

I have changed things up to allow a few more options in the type of story and also to add an option for a multi-chapter fic.

We are looking for beta volunteers, so if you are interested email me at i.writethesongs.svm @gmail.com, or tweet me at @I_WritetheSongs.   I'll add your fanfiction profile and / or twitter name to this blog on the Beta page so that authors can contact you.

It's coming! A new round of I Write the Songs!

Hi everyone!  

With some encouragement,  I have decided to do another I Write the Songs contest.  I am currently updating and trying to improve some things to make this time even better.   Look for more soon.  Follow  this blog or @I_WriteTheSongs on Twitter to keep up on the contest.

I will be updating sections of this blog as I get the parameters set, right now it is all things from the fall of 2010.  Let me know (tweet me at @I_WriteTheSongs or email me at i.writethesongs.svm@gmail.com)  if you are interested in being a beta for this contest.

My dear Alison has told me she does not feel well enough to co-host but she may write an entry!  She was the brilliant source of the theme for this contest.  Music is so inspiring.

I am looking forward to some new stories and some new authors!  The tentative submission dates are:  May 21-July 15.  Hopefully the new book in May and the new season of True Blood will also fuel some ideas for you to tell a story YOUR way!

I really want to thank everyone for the support they gave us in the previous contest and hope you will be able to participate anew.  The overloaded judges were awesome.  Some of the changes I plan should make it easier for the new judges.

As any of your judges will tell you, this was a tough job! I could have picked at least a dozen entries but knew I only had the luxury of one.

Before I put you out of your suspense and tell you who made my number one, can I please take this moment to thank everyone that entered a story, our judges, Zigster and Dazed Rose for their graphics help and the Sookieverse blog for advice on how to run a contest.

It is not as easy as it might appear! If our contest worked well it wasn’t really down to me, I just had the mad and silly ideas and my dear friend,  Anne (Northwoman) made them happen. Thank you, dear heart, for all your help.

Do you wish I would just hurry up and tell you? Hee hee.

I thought it would a good idea to choose my pick before we knew the eight finalists. That way I knew I wouldn’t be swayed into picking a story that didn’t make the cut, I would be tempted to spread as much joy as I could, because I know so many of you deserved recognition.

As Allie said, picking is a tough job,  and our judges were amazing!  I had a VERY difficult time narrowing down to my favorites and then to only one.

I also want to thank everyone who helped us so much; the authors, the judges, the readers, and awesome graphics from DazedRose and Zigster.  I had help from many people who had previously hosted contests with information on hosting, and judging & scoring. I thank you all so much as it wouldn’t have been possible without you. 

Of course, it all started with an idea from my best buddy, Alison (Northman Maille) and nothing would have happened without her.

I couldn’t just announce my host pick without acknowledging all my favorite stories from the contest.  There were so many good ones that I enjoyed so much.

There were many great stories that didn’t get here.  Please read & review these stories, we were pleased to get them all and want them to get some love.

Contest deadline!

Contests in the past have extended the deadline in response to demand from those authors that have run out of time. Anne and I feel that we have left ample submission time, over a calendar month, and therefore, under no circumstances, will we extend the deadline. We feel that it is against the contest rules as we set them down and unfair to those who worked hard to hit the proper date.

So please don't ask ladies, because a refusal often offends :)

Posting Entries to Sites other than FanFiction.Net

We know that some of you are not happy with policies on fanfiction.net.  With respect to those authors,  we will allow entries that will not be posted there. 

The procedure remains similar. No entries should be posted anywhere until after judging. Authors will receive an email when judging is complete.  When you have posted your story on fanfiction.net or elsewhere, send us back a link.  If it is on fanfiction.net, we will put your story in the contest community.  If it is posted elsewhere, we will link the story on our blog page for contest entries.
